Stories from Collective

After we launch Black The Fall, we’ll retreat into the mountains and come up with the next awesome project.

- Andreea Vaduva, Community Manager

Black The Fall has been created by Romanian team Sand Sailor Studio, who first revealed the project back in 2014 on the Collective feedback platform. They then followed that up with a successful Kickstarter campaign - but it's undergone a huge transformation since then, and has become even more broodingly atmospheric and absorbing.

Black The Fall is our story. As we remember it. As it was passed on to us by our families. As we see it between the lines of our social, economic and political life today.

- Cristian Diaconescu, Creative Director

We work in an interwar house with a whimsical garden, quite close to the city centre. I might call this place inspiring. One day, Cristi went out to get lunch and came back with a game-related idea, inspired by some bird behaviour he noticed on the street.

In the second game chapter, Into The Dark, there is a hidden room where an honourable character is soaking in denial and misery, with authenticity. Very disturbing. Very nice. .

Fun. Resourceful. Resilient. Smart. Together.

I was eleven years old, the machine was a Sinclair Spectrum and the game was called Galaxians (by 89' Romanian standards, that was a really early age to start gaming).

- Razvan Dumitrache, Senior Programmer

We get super excited at the idea that our game has a solid shot at a cultural impact, not only for our fellows, who will recognise the efforts put into recreating some of the details of our history’s less colourful moments, but also for the curious ones with whom we wish to share a bit of what some of us vividly remember and have lived through.

We see a colourful future for VR, especially because the rules of this technology are being written as we speak – not only technically, but story-wise.

- Adrian Cristea, Rendering Programmer

It’s rather tough to constantly work long hours, to change hats and to always be working against the clock. But, I’ll have to admit, this is challenging in a fun way and it’s a beautiful learning curve for everyone in the team.

- Marius Mustata, Level Designer

At least one of us collaborated with one of them on previous creative projects, at some point. But these are technicalities, the fun part is how the team functions. We just click!
