Raji An Ancient Epic is an action adventure game set in ancient India. Raji, a young gypsy girl is chosen by the gods to fight against the demonic invasion of the human realm. Her destiny to rescue her younger brother and face the demon lord Mahabalasura.

Raji: An Ancient Epic’s gameplay is a blend of fluid combat and intriguing environmental puzzles.

The combat is focused on blending the fluidity of movement and attacks of the player character against the mystical and powerful enemies you will face. While the combat can make one feel a demigod residing in Raji, the vulnerable human side is never too far. The focus of the gameplay is as follows.

  • Pick among various Gods to favour you, each one of them provides you with striking abilities for each of your weapons, allowing you to fight against all odds.
  • Customize the various abilities on each of the weapons, allowing you to fight with competence.
  • Fight against sub-types of demons, mini bosses and face epic boss battles. Every fight more challenging than the previous.
  • Explore the levels to discover rewards and lore of the game through secret locations and intriguing puzzles.
  • Quick switch between any two weapons, allowing you to change your tactics and approach to best your opponent.

Raji: An Ancient Epic follows the story of Raji, who is determined to find her brother and bring peace to the human realm. The Epic unfolds as you witness how Raji evolves through the atrocities of war and the loss of loved ones. She takes upon herself to find an end to this chaos, which can only happen if she manages to break down the might and the stratagem devised by the great demon lord, Mahabalasura.

The game is inspired by Hindu and Balinese mythology, allowing us to create diverse level locations, demons, bosses and characters. The team wants to tell a story set in India, which has rarely been done before within the video-games industry. We visited Rajasthan, India, Bali, and Indonesia where we grasped the inspiration for the game's universe.

Each and every corner of Raji: An Ancient Epic is hand painted, this technique utilises several pieces of software, whilst taking dedication and countless hours of work. The environment is inspired by the medieval architecture of Rajasthan, which was a pinnacle of architectural achievement during the medieval era of India.

Favour of the Gods is a feature which allows for the player to pick their god and customise various abilities within their weapons. Each god grants you an element, and players will have the choice of fire, ice, lightning, earth and rage to empower your weapons and abilities. This feature allows you to handcraft a form of game-play that suits your own play-style.

Our character art style reflects inspiration from Southeast Asia, the art team went to Bali, Indonesia to study more about the mythology and the background of the island. The art team were heavily influenced by the demonic statues and sculptures that were later infused within the characters of the game.

Raji’s concept art portrays the ancient medieval architecture of India. Encapsulating colourful exquisite environments which gives the awe of being in a mystical world.

A trip to Bali, Indonesia by our artists allowed us to be inspired by Balinese culture and we incorporated the demon masks to our character art style. This allowed us to re-imagine our universe which is inspired by Hindu and Balinese mythology, blending gracefully in our game.

The story of the game takes you through various levels which were inspired by gigantic forts of the medieval era, built by Rajput kings of Rajasthan. Not only that these forts allow for tightly packed arenas for combat they also take the player through the massive scale and breath taking views the forts provide. The levels will also feature secret locations where one might wonder, what would they stumble upon…friend or foe, treasure or trap?

Each of the handcrafted levels will ask the player to surpass challenges one after another. Various “Mandala” puzzles play an important role in environment storytelling, these were designed to give the player a breather in-between the challenging combat. Certain level locations will be telling their own story, which is up to the players to decipher, our artists and level designer have made these locations keeping in mind the context of the level and the lore of the universe.
