FaelandTM is a Metroidvania Action Adventure RPG video-game in pixel art style inspired on the nostalgic 8-Bit classics, with a modern charm for all generations. It is currently in development for PC, Mac and Linux, with Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch console ports on the horizon as stretch goals through its upcoming Kickstarter campaign!

In Faeland as the player, you can freely explore the open world, traveling from one town to another, talk to friendly NPCs, learn about the game’s lore and get useful tips, commerce valuable items to improve your economics, buy new equipment and consumables, and do quests to acquire useful loot while progressing in the main story. Some of the areas you need to traverse are challenging forests, caves, dungeons, castles and more. You also have to acquire new abilities and special items to gain access to previously inaccessible areas and paths. The combat style is customized through your equipped weapon, choose from knives, daggers, swords, axes, spears, and bows all with different attack animations, speeds, strengths and effects.

In a fantasy world, humans have established their kingdom through centuries of peace efforts to keep a safe margin with the dark forces of magic and monstrous beasts that lurk away from civilization. Sam, our protagonist, is a skilled hunter living in a secluded cottage in the forest… until one day his home gets raided by a horde of orcs and trolls. Escaping the attack with little but his life, he will begin a new adventure and forge allegiances throughout his travels. Unbeknownst to him, a larger threat looms in the background and the entire realm’s survival will rest upon him becoming the hero he was born to be.

In Faeland there are some massive and challenging Bosses, they can be found in dungeons and also freely roaming certain areas. See below a couple of our Bosses’ design concepts!

FaelandTM is currently in development for PC, Mac, and Linux, with fully support of game controllers. We are also aiming to release FaelandTM on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch if we get the funds needed through our upcoming Kickstarter campaign to make these console ports happen.

We have high hopes that Square Enix Collective will help us greatly to get the project out there and receive the feedback we need that will impact greatly our creative progress and push Faeland towards a more complete, and appealing video game in all aspects.

Need this on the ps4 or ass App Store purChase for iPad!!
I'm in love with everything about this game! Graphics are pixeltastic! Music is adventurous! Overall concept is very original! The combat is very classic and refreshing to see! This game looks awesome and I would definitely buy! Also, is it coming to consoles?
It looks like a better version of castlevania snes. Love the gameplay how you can avoid enemies and defend yourself from attacks.
Can't wait to play it! (Assuming it gets the funding it needs....)
Great animation, and overall concept. The commerce feature as well as different armor equips is a nice component. Hope to see it available for purchase some time.
I'm getting some great Faxanadu vibes from this, can't wait to see more.
Yes. Yes. YES. Did I say yes? I want this. I saw the thumbnail graphic in my Square Enix Collective newsletter and knew immediately this was something that must exist. In my collection. NOW. Zelda II is unquestionably my favorite LoZ title, and the graphical styling of Faeland is exactly that. I love "Sam." I love his character model (though the green coloring of his tunic might raise a few brows—he's pretty much a dead ringer for Link). I love the HAIR! xD And 16-bit throwbacks are always a win in my book. The animation is smooth, Sam's movement fluid, and the Metroidvania play style—ACES. Throw in a damsel in distress/princess love interest and this is basically the Holy Grail of fantasy retro. I desperately want this for anything other than PC. PS4, Switch, 3DS. Don't care as long as it's ported to console. You have my 150% support. Awesome job, guys. Blown away.
Looks so great! And the animation is smooth. Best of luck with the voting.
I have been a fan of this game mechanic since the 90's but sadly have switched to just console in past years but would very much play this game of ever released for console (of any kind)
I would love to see more of this game. I think the rich color palette makes for a vibrant experience along with tride and true game mechanics. What I would really like to see more of: customizable equipment, a large variety of weapons, and a very deverse amount of armors. A skilltree would also be awesome in this sort of game. I would love to see a physical version of this released for the Nintendo Switch. Please support this game Square Enix.
Story based love interest for a badass thief or fellow adventurer!?
I believe some romance in the story could be great!
I would buy this game in a heartbeat! It has everything I usually look for, awesome looking gameplay, a great level of customization, and a beautiful and timeless art style! I will be looking forward to this if it does indeed become a game in the future.
This looks like an incredible amount of work has already been put into the game. Imagine what they could do with support! Back them Sqaure!
This game looks amazing! Metroidvania is my favorite types of games being an old school gamer. I will definitely support this game. I hope you are willing to do a physical release for this game would buy without hesitation.
This looks promising and I like what I've seen and read so far. So long as the bosses are challenging but not ridiculous, this will definitely be a hit! I'd definitely pick this up. Back them Square Enix!!!!
it looks very promising to me. It brings back great memories from my early gaming days. I hope to see this released in the future on current consoles.
I could see this game on other platforms even vita, 3ds, i do think maybe the outfit color could be different. Not saying it is your intention but it resembles link. But the game looks good.
This game looks like its going to be great! I love that you guys even got the hero's movements to match similarly to games like Super Metroid and Castlevania. The game looks gorgeous, potentially has hunting elements for an extra layer of gameplay, interestingly open world (it sounds like its not just aimless wandering put in for kicks) and even has extra side bosses in the open world. I like that you're adding extra layers and tones to enhance the 16 bit art style to go beyond its limits. It really helps give the game a powerful and eye catching look. Plus you guys got some nice cape physics going on. I always love capes, especially here where it makes the hero even more heroic looking. Good luck on getting your project funded and I'll definitely be following this! Looking forward to funding or buying this game!
I just hope there will be a console release in the future
I enjoy what I see so far from watching the trailer. However, I do wish I have access to its demo, so I can do a further analysis on the the game itself since a trailer can only do so much. I really have nothing negative to say about what I've seen, so if developers need moral support, then they definitely have mine. Well, good luck on this project and have fun.
Waow. Look amazing. I feel nostalgic at see the the trailers. I like to know there are people (professionals) working to make masterpiece. I hope this game really a big adventure because I am ready to expendt much time on it. I like the idea. I like the art. I wish you the best of the successes!
Please release this one !
This game looks to be a great game when it comes to graphics and gameplay
This game looks gorgeous! Can't wait to back it on Kickstarter!
This game looks amazing already and I cannot wait to see how it turns out in the final version. Best of luck to you guys!
this game just looks awesome. it reminds me of hercules from my childhood. but it looks like it's better in every way. i can't wait for it to come out. good luck
i just wanna say good luck. Im pretty sure it's will be great game.
When will it be on Kickstarter, because i think i would back the project without hesitation.
Your game looks incredible. Older rpg fans would definitely enjoy this. It seems to have the depth of a modern game, while maintaining the feel and appearance of something from my childhood. There seems to be something a little too zelda-esque in the character's look, but with the addition of your aforementioned character creator, the game should have enough uniqueness to stand out in the crowd. The battle system and character growth look very appealing, and even the small touches like the way you actually open a door and walk through it, are great. I would be very interested in getting my hands on a ps4 copy.
The animation looks so smooth. I think the concerns about this getting drowned out will only hold if the visuals and smoothness of the animation aren't consistent. This game could be wonderful if the team takes their time, tunes it, and tells whatever tale they're looking to tell. I really feel like Let's Players could eat it up for the nostalgia factor.
Love metroidvania games, but with the blond hair and a green tunic I cant help but think of LoZ 2. Other than that I do enjoy the overall artwork of the game, but unless it has an interesting mechanic that will help it spread by word of mouth (just being a great game will help with that too), it might drown in the sea that is Steam's marketplace and that would be a shame. Never the less I'll buy when it is released to show my support. Good Job
eu só vou dizer uma coisa este jogo tem que sair porque ele é sensacional !!!! um dia pretendo criar um jogo assim tao maravilhoso
It's pretty good pixel art and art direction, but regardless of whatever you guys do, there's a high potential this'll be completely lost in a sea of retro-style pixel art Metroidvanias clogging up Steam and the Consoles already. Seriously, just look at this list: http://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Metroidvania/ ...it's like 90% of indie developers don't even know other game designs even existed back in the day :/ And while _Faeland_ looks fine, there doesn't seem to be a big, notable "hook" here to help it stand out - no core gameplay mechanic like the animal transformation of _Shantae_ or the roguelike nature of _Dead Cells_ or the point-n-click inventory puzzles in _Mystik Belle_ , etc. This just looks like a very solid, albeit traditional and straightforward, game in the vein of _Zelda 2_ or _Battle of Olympus_ ...but also sort of evokes _King's Quest V_ in it's art which is neat :) Good luck you guys. It's gonna be hard to carve out a space here and get attention
Reminds me of the LOZ games that I played as a kid. It looks beautiful and I will definitely pick this up when it releases. I can't see anything to criticise from the trailer alone. One thing I would like to know is the difficulty of the game? Can it be selected when you start a new game or is there one difficulty setting?
I like your idea and I love Metroidvania style games but the running and combat seems to be a bit too slow to be satisfying.
I had one of those moments where I watched the trailer and basically my reaction was... TAKE MY MONEY! From Quest for Glory to Monkey Island, classic Sierra and Lucas Arts games this style mixed with the fluidity of modern side scroller playability makes Faeland look amazing to play... and then I read OPEN WORLD. Mic drop.
This game looks absolutely marvelous! I think the only thing I would improve is adding an option to play as a female character.
This is vintage Kings quest. I love those games and own them all as well as other Sierra games from that generation. I would love to see this ported to Switch. I have actually coded some games in this genre and it is my favorite to work on. Classic look and a great emphasis on story as opposed to graphics.
Beautiful game and gameplay looks super satisfying and fun!!! Medieval fantasy is awesome! Can’t wait to adventure!
the game looks amazing...and It might be fun and Im totally supporting it....but , but the setting is a little too generic....dont get me wrong...the art style is good, but I feel you guys could create a more unique setting to make this game, I don't know how the Faelands world is different from Middle Earth, the World of Divinity, or any world in any generic MMORPG,is not a deal breaker by any means, but is a missed opportunity, that said...again the game looks pretty good so Im going to support it
I want these game now :) Expecting the kickstarter!
there three genres I love, Action, RPG and Metroidvania, this game looks so beautiful and very excited, I love the title Faeland, you deffo getting a Yes vote from me, I want to see everything you got plan for this game, the world, it's story, it's hero Sam go into depth, it's characters, I hope you reach your dreams, I hope to see this game glow, don't leave anything out, go crazy with it, (How will you be telling it's story?) you could do little collection with game, soundtrack, little statue of your hero Sam, art book, ,
Love the graphics, seems like a LOZ which is a great turn on for me. The gameplay seems very interesting. Really hoping it gets released!! Thumbs up!!
So excited for this game! Reminds me of two of my favorite games of all time: Zelda II The Adventure of Link & The Battle of Olympus! I would absolutely love to see this game on the Nintendo Switch if possible but I would play this on any platform. Looks great so far...looking forward to seeing more!
Love the look. Hoping for a large world with lots of places to explore. These are my favorite type games. Fully support.
I ran out of space for my comment! I also hope the world is large, large, large to encourage exploration! With a multitude of mobility upgrades. Who says you cannot have a game that excels in story, combat, and exploration?? :) Shoot for the stars Talegames!
This game seems to be on par with the likes of Celeste and Owlboy if not being better. The art choices and gameplay are very fresh after not having a medieval-esque Metroidvania for quite a while. I would love to see this game become its own. I cannot wait to see the finished product. Keep on doing what you're doing devs.
Love the look. Hope it's great!
I have posted about this game on multiple gaming forums because I am so excited about it. Something with the polished visuals and involving story of Owlboy/Ori & the Blind Forest, but with more exploration and a larger world like the Zelda series sounds phenomenal. Something that metroidvanias tend to struggle with is a compelling endgame once the story is finished. If you could find a way to include or add as DLC a deep and addictive endgame component that adds real longevity and endless replayability like Dead Cells or Diablo 3: ROS, you will have achieved something truly amazing. I would also encourage you to look to Dead Cells and Mark of the Ninja for inspiration when it comes to extremely satisfying, responsive, and smooth combat, as well as combat sound effects. Though DC may be faster paced, and MOTN may be more stealth-based than combat in Faeland, combat in both is immensely satisfying, as is player interaction with enemies in MOTN beyond just killing! Will support!!!!
This is basically what those nostalgic games I grew up with look like in my mind. It’s the kind of game I would buy for each platform it gets released on. Can’t wait to see it at Pax East!!
This games combines to things that I ha e great affinity for: a fantasy setting and pixel-art visuals. I'm excited that this in development and hope that there will be an opportunity for me to play it one day.
First saw a trailer of this form a news youtuber 'spawnwave' a few months back, looks amazing and will defiantly support the kickstarter, hope the switch port stretch goal gets reached as It's a perfect fit, especially since it give a major Zelda 2 vibe, can't wait for this game.
First heard about Faeland from an article on a gaming website. Forgot which one it was, but the short trailer and screenshots of the game caught my eye, and as soon as I saw the word "metroidvania" and the author's comparison of this game to Zelda II, I was immediately interested. I would definitely support the development of this game, and I hope Square Enix does, too!
I love the music, art style, gameplay, and hopefully an interesting story. As "camseyeview", I also want this game to be launched on N. Switch. But please don't make it digital only: this game deserves to be on a cartridge. I don't mind to pay extra (if it comes to be the case).
I was happy to see this one. The last couple of Collective choices fell flat. I recognize this one from a trailer I saw a while back. I wish there was console goals, and hopefully when you get to Kickstarter, you can add in a Switch goal. I'm voting yes.
I first heard about Faeland a few months ago, and after viewing the trailer, I want to know all I can about it. I want to play it. I want this game to succeed. It looks like so much fun, with all the different weapons you can use, the places you can explore, all the monsters you can fight, the people you can meet and talk to, and the graphic style is just beautiful to look at. I can't wait!
Woah!!! One of the most beautiful games I have ever seen. Looking forward to the Kickstarter!
